Meiki Rhule, founder of Meiki's Agricultural Enterprises Limited, has dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting local agriculture. Initially, Meiki’s dream was to become a veterinarian, driven by her deep love for animals. She began pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science, but life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). This condition made it impossible for her to work in environments where she would be exposed to bacteria and irritants, making her beloved dream unattainable.
Despite this setback, Meiki persevered. She briefly worked outside of agriculture but soon found herself unfulfilled. With encouragement from her mother, she returned to school with a new focus: plant science. Meiki’s passion for agriculture was reignited as she embraced the study of plants and food production. Her journey led her to the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA), where she now provides invaluable support for farmers.
Every week, Meiki visits farms to assess the health of crops, helping farmers combat issues like pests and diseases. She has built strong bonds with the farming community, known for her willingness to go the extra mile to help. Meiki’s love for fresh food and commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture in Jamaica shines through her work. Her story is one of resilience, passion, and dedication, as she continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of farmers and the quality of local agricultural produce.
